May 2024 in Astrology

Away from the Eclipses of April, May feels much more settled. In many ways, this is a better moment to plan and push ahead than last month ever was. Similarly, May shows us moving away from some influences that were a very strong part of the end of 2023 and the first few months of 2024.

As I’ve said on my yearly predictions, the first 5 months of the year had a strong influence of Saturn and other karmic points. So these were months where we dealt a lot with old wounds, hurts, slights and issues from the past. It was a strong time for internal work, and understanding ourselves better. Now we get into the external part, so it is much more about expressing ourselves and fixing things.

May starts with Jupiter entering Taurus. It will stay in this sign until May 2025. Jupiter is the planet of luck and opportunities. In Mundane Astrology, it signals the yearly hand of the clock. Transiting in Taurus, it shows that the coming year is all about material and tangible issues.

I won’t talk too much about this, as I already made a full text on Jupiter in Taurus. But the year ahead favors anything practical. This is not a time to dream, or to get inspired, or ponder and philosophy things. This is a time for action, practical steps, things that we can feel and touch.

The month also starts with Pluto going retrograde, as such, there is a strong Pluto energy in the early portion of May.

Pluto represents: Power, control, manipulation, secrets, obsessions, revenge. Big money, big government, big powerful institutions. Sex, corruption. Related to the energies of Scorpio and the 8th house.

On a mundane level, this Pluto influence deals a lot with unhinged action by those in power. Aggression, quarrels, disagreement are all things on the table. Similarly, efforts of censorship and manipulation could intensify now.

Going along for the ride, for the thunder of Pluto, this month we have Mars also on fire. We ended April with Mars in Pisces, transiting closely to Neptune, a fairly calm (albeit confusing) aspect. In May, Mars will conjunct Rahu exactly on the 18th, with this aspect influencing most of the month.

Mars gets intensified by Rahu. This aspect promotes violence, excesses and vicious trends. As well as desires for vengeance.

On a mundane level, this aspect can specially indicate a time of intensified aggression and conflict. Repression and suppression of protesters, violent events, public quarrels, are some examples of what can happen under this influence.

On our own lives, we might see people getting more angry, or more easily riled up.

The New Moon this month happens on Bharani nakshatra. This star deals a lot with rebirth. Specially on a New Moon, this is a time of rising up or getting out of our shell, becoming something new.

On a Mundane level, Bharani also deals a lot with vengeance, which will go along with the themes already seen by Mars and Pluto.

The Full Moon this month happens in Anuradha nakshatra. As that is the star of agreements and friendship, this can be a time where we understand better some associations or partnerships. Secret or underhanded deals might be understood now through this lens.

Summary

Mundane

This will be a turbulent month, specially media-wise. A lot of the stories circulating this month will tend to be scandalous or incendiary. Anger sells, despair sells, what else can I say?

A lot of the problems this month will exist solely as that, stories on a screen. Both the Solar and Lunar Eclipses happened in nakshatras that deal with media, manipulation and distortions. So this is a strong time for stories that rile people up.

On a tangible level, however, this can be a time for aggression, repression and anger. A lot of aspects this month point towards that.

Personal

On a personal level, this month is a great time for gaining clarity. April had a lot of fog, with the Eclipses and Mercury. Even understanding where to go or what to do might have been hard for some. May clears the air and it is easier to understand things now.

The forceful aspects of the month, on the positive, give us strength to fight and develop things. This is a time for action, going after things and doing the work. Avoid dwelling on anger, hopelessness and despair. Focus on what you can change and improve instead.

The New Moon is specially a great time for a rebirth, making a pact, coming into new terms with life. In fact, right after the New Moon, we will have some very lucky days. The Sun will be exalted in Aries and the Moon will be exalted in Taurus, between May 8th and May 10th. This is a time of luck and prosperity.

Similarly, the rest of the month is a good moment to gain clarity and push forward with things, starting fresh with the new cycle of Jupiter.

Mars in Aries

Mars in Aries is a turbo-overcharge of energy. Aries is a sign ruled by Mars, so he sits home here. Being a fire sign, this stimulates Mars even more. Overall, this is a very active placement that inclines the native towards doing and moving much.

Pride, Passion and Arrogance

Starting things, being first, being the best, daring and challenging others are all things related to this placement.

These natives love a challenge, they love new projects, so they are always starting something new. Will they follow through and keep on it forever? Maybe, probably not. But they start a lot of things. They like being able to say that they were the best ones at something, or the first ones to do something, so they are always trying for something new.

Similarly, they love competition, specially if it means winning. They aren’t ones to run from a fight or challenge, in fact, they might seek them.

Independence and Risk

As said above, these natives love starting things, no matter how different or unusual. Similarly, they don’t care about the risk. A lot of them actually love the idea of a risky venture. They imagine themselves going, winning, and telling others about how they won against all odds.

There is almost a complete lack of risk aversion here. They will take risks. They will do things first, they will do it their own way and they won’t be slowed down by anyone.

Tools and Weapons

Physical strength, initiative and fearfulness are the leading qualities here.

These natives will outpace others, either by having better stamina to deal with thick and thin. This placement frequently shows one that keeps his shape/strength/disposition well into old age. The 65 year old who runs, jumps and does crazy things; compared to the 24 year old that won’t do anything because my bad back.

A lack of fear, or a lack of caring about fear, is similarly a powerful weapon here. A lot of challenges in life are psychological, seeing who succumbs first to fear, and Mars in Aries won’t budge. They will fight till death, so fear won’t stop them.

Anger and Aggression

Aries is quick to anger, but also to calm down. Anger here is usually an outburst, swearing a lot, punching walls/doors and getting it out of their system. But they calm down quickly afterwards.

These natives get angered when losing (not the best losers at all), or when people diminish their accomplishments. Similarly, this position stimulates leadership, and they hate not being in charge. If someone seems slow, and wants to take the lead over them, they will resent that deeply.

Sex and Men

This placement is lustful, although not that lastful. Sex here is more of an urge than a ritual or a shared experience. They want to go, and they want it now and fast. Foreplay is not that big of a deal for them. They can be selfish lovers at times too. Similarly, the chase of winning someone new can be more interesting than actually staying or having a relationship.

Initiative is also present here, and these natives tend to be very upfront and direct, even women. Mars in Aries women will usually take the initiative if they are interested in you, unless you (rarely) manage to be first before her. These natives are not ones to sit around and wait for a lover, they go after it.

Men with this placement will always have an youthful, aggressive and forceful demeanor to them. They will be admired for their strength/power, but also somewhat feared for it.

If you have Mars in Aries, you tend to be attracted to men that are: sportive, daredevil, ruddy, brash or aggressive types. Macho men types are indicated here. Men dealing with sports, personal training, guns, fighting, martial arts, engineering, police officers, military, men in uniform.

Other points

  • Lots of energy, even as they age.
  • They love challenges, hearing a “no” only gives them more resolve.
  • Starting things, being first, doing it their own special way.
  • Women with Mars in Aries are rarely quiet shy types.
  • These natives might lack endurance, they go after something, and then they move on almost immediately after getting it.
  • Not good losers, they get angry.
  • They like being in charge, they will always slightly resent people above them.
